How to fix slow scrolling in Windows 11 Virtual Machines in Parallels Desktop

The issue described in this article was addressed in the Parallels Desktop 20 (55742) released on November 28, 2024. To update Parallels Desktop, click the Parallels Desktop icon in the top menu bar (or using the Dock icon) > Check for Updates or download the installer from the Download page.


Some customers reported slow scrolling issues in Windows 11 virtual machines. Conditions vary, but overall symptoms are the same: scrolling becomes slow or laggy after some time. The workaround mentioned below was tested locally and with some customers and confirmed effective.

Resolution

1. Open Parallels Desktop > Launch your Windows Virtual Machine experiencing the scrolling issue.
2. Click on the Windows Start Icon > Type CMD > Right-click on Command Prompt > Run as Administrator
3. Execute the command below:

   powercfg /hibernate off

4. Shutdown the virtual machine (Click on the Windows Start Icon > Click on the Power Button > Shutdown)
5. Relaunch the Windows Virtual Machine> The scrolling should return to normal.
