Smart Card reader not accessible in Windows running on Parallels Desktop for Chrome OS Enterprise and Education Edition

Symptoms

A Smart Card reader connected to the virtual machine is not being detected in Windows.

Cause

Some application on the Chrome OS side, such as "Smart Card Connector", is connected to the device, preventing Parallels Desktop from accessing it.

Resolution

Quit all Chrome OS applications that may be accessing the Smart Card reader and try again. Restarting Parallels Desktop may be required.
