Symptoms

You can insert an image (account picture) in the Windows login screen which appears when a user logs in with SAML and opens a published resource. By default, when using SAML SSO no account picture is shown in the Windows login screen. To add your customer images please follow the below procedure.

Resolution

The custom image must meet the following requirements:

Changing the logon image for resources published from a single machine

To add/change the logon image for resources published from a single machine:

  1. Prepare the image as described in the Requirements for custom images subsection above. 

  2. Copy the image to the RD Session Host, guest VM, Azure Virtual Desktop host, or Remote PC that contains the published resources.

  3. On the machine that contains the published resources, open the registry editor (regedit).

  4. Navigate to HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Parallels\PrlsCredentialProvider.

  5. Create a new REG_SZ value and name it TileBMPFilePath.

  6. Specify the path to the image in the newly created value. 

  7. After this, the image will be changed. Rebooting the machine is not necessary.

Removing the logon image for resources published from a single machine

To remove the logon image for resources published from a single machine:

  1. On the machine that contains the published resource, open the registry editor (regedit). 

  2. Navigate to HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Parallels\PrlsCredentialProvider.

  3. Create a new REG_SZ value and name it TileBMPFilePath. Leave the value empty. 

  4. After this, the image will disappear. Rebooting the machine is not necessary. 

Changing the logon image for resources published from multiple machines

To change the logon image for resources published from multiple machines:

  1. Prepare the image as described in the Requirements for custom images subsection above.

  2. Copy the image to a shared folder accessible to all machines on which you want to change the image.

  3. Open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC).

  4. Open or create a GPO linked with the OU where the machines reside

  5. Right-click the newly created GPO and select Edit in the context menu. The Group Policy Management Editor window opens.

  6. Go to Computer Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Files.

  7. Right-click Files and select New > Files in the context menu. The New File Properties window opens.

  8. On the General tab, configure the options in this window as follows: ​​​​​​

    • Action: Create 
    • Source file(s): <path to the image inside the shared folder> 
    • Destination File: <path to which the image must be copied on every machine>Click OK. 
  9.  Right-click Registry and select New > Registry Item in the context menu. The New Registry Properties window opens.

  10. On the General tab, configure the options in this window as follows: 

    • Action: Create 

    • Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE 

    • Key Path: Software\WOW6432Node\Parallels\PrlsCredentialProvider 

    • Value name: TileBMPFilePath 

    • Value type: REG_SZ 

    • Value data: <path to which the image must be copied on every machine> Click OK.

  11. The image will be changed on the next Group Policy update. To change the image immediately, run the gpupdate command on each target machine.

To remove the logon image for resources published from multiple machines: 

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC). 

  2. Open or create a GPO linked with the OU where the machines reside. 

  3. Right-click the newly created GPO and select Edit in the context menu. The Group Policy Management Editor window opens. 

    • Go to Computer Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings

    • Registry or User Configuration > Preferences > Windows

    • Settings > Registry, depending on your needs

  4. Right-click Registry and select New > Registry Item in the context menu. The New Registry Properties window opens.

  5. On the General tab, configure the options in this window as follows: 

    • Action: Create 

    • Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE 

    • Key Path: Software\WOW6432Node\Parallels\PrlsCredentialProvider 

    • Value name: TileBMPFilePath 

    • Value type: REG_SZ 

    • Value data: <empty string> 

    • Click OK.

  6.  The image will disappear on the next Group Policy update. To change the image immediately, run the gpupdate command on each target machine.
