ERROR: The sound input device specified in the virtual machine configuration is not found

Symptoms

Parallels Desktop displays the following error when you try to start your virtual machine:

The sound input device specified in the virtual machine configuration is not found.

Cause

The error above means your sound audio input device could not be properly connected to your virtual machine.

Resolution

  1. Go to your virtual machine Configuration -> Hardware tab and make sure that the correct Sound input device is selected;

  2. If you are trying to use an external audio device, make sure it is connected to your Mac;

  3. In case it is a USB device, un-plug it and then plug it in again;

If it is a new device, a dialog will appear - choose to connect the device to your virtual machine; If no dialog appears, go to virtual machine's configuration -> Hardware tab then pass the device to your virtual machine.
