As from v21.2.1.1 (build 27310) version, Parallels Remote Application Server (Parallels RAS) lets administrators monitor running and published application usage inside a session. On virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) host pools with frequent user logon, logoff, and reconnect activity, the volume of monitoring data the RAS Guest Agent reports to the RAS Connection Broker can add measurable load to the Farm's controller service. Administrators who want to reduce this load on high-churn VDI pools can turn application monitoring off for VDI guests using a registry setting.
To disable application monitoring on a VDI guest:
- On the VDI guest — or on its template/golden image, so the setting is inherited by every clone — open Registry Editor.
- Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels\ApplicationServer\DeveloperSettings. Create the key if it does not exist. - Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named
AppMonitor. - Set the value data:
- 0 — turns application monitoring off. The Guest Agent stops reporting process-monitoring data for the session. The guest's
%programdata%\Parallels\RASLogs\vdiagent.logrecords the lineApplication monitoring mode is 'Off', confirming the new setting is active. - 1 — monitors all processes in the session. This is the default for VDI guests.
- 2 — monitors only published applications.
- 0 — turns application monitoring off. The Guest Agent stops reporting process-monitoring data for the session. The guest's
- Restart the Guest Agent service (or restart the guest) to apply the change. For Template — exit Maintenance mode and recreate clones.
Note: Apply the registry value to the template or golden image before publishing new clones, so every VDI guest provisioned from it inherits the setting automatically.
Note: This registry setting applies to VDI desktop guests. RD Session Host and Azure Virtual Desktop host pools already expose an application monitoring toggle in the RAS Console Farm settings.
