Performance and Resource Usage Monitoring Dashboard
The Dashboard helps monitor the performance and resource usage of each component on the system. This tool is designed to help administrators analyze installation bottlenecks and resources usage, and to resolve possible Parallels RAS misconfigurations.
The performance monitor can help monitor and analyze issues such as :
- slow Parallels RAS performance,
- session disconnects,
- slowing down of host servers
Parallels RAS Performance Monitor Components
Parallels RAS Performance Monitor uses the following components to collect and view performance data:
- InfluxDB — a time series database for storing Parallels RAS performance statistics.
- Grafana — a front end for InfluxDB data viewing.
- Telgraf — a service that collects performance statistics on a server where it is installed and sends it to the InfluxDB database for storing. The service is installed automatically together with a corresponding RAS Agent on each server participating in a Parallels RAS farm, including RAS Secure Client Gateway, RD Session Host, Remote PC, etc. Therefore, the data is collected for each individual server and can be viewed later using the Grafana dashboard.
Installing RAS Performance Monitor
To install the RAS Performance Monitor, run its installer (RASPerformanceMonitor.msi) on a dedicated server or on a server hosting a Parallels RAS component. The installer will install an InifluxDB instance and the Grafana service.
Please note the following port requirements:
InfluxDB requires TCP port 8086 to be open.
Grafana requires TCP port 3000 to be open.
Enable RAS Performance Monitor
After installing the Parallels RAS Performance Monitor, you need to enable it. To do so:
- In the RAS Console, navigate to Administration > Reporting.
- Select the Enable RAS Performance Dashboard option (the lower section of the tab page).
- Enter the FQDN or IP address of the server where you have Parallels RAS Performance Monitor installed.
- Click Apply to commit the changes.
Collecting and viewing performance statistics
You should give the RAS Performance Monitor some time to collect statistics before you can view it. To view the performance data, do the following:
- In the RAS Console, select the Monitoring category.
-
The right pane will automatically connect to the Grafana service and will display the performance dashboard.
- You can now use the Grafana web page to view Parallels RAS statistics. The logon is performed automatically, so you don't have to provide any credentials. To refresh the page, click the Refresh button. To view the page in the external web browser, click the Open in external browser button.
