Pinning published resources to the Windows start bar

Symptoms

When I try to create a shortcut for a published resource and pin it to the start bar, another entry in the user's start bar is created.

See the following screenshot for an example:

Cause

OS Windows native logic working with shortcuts.

Resolution

If you wish to avoid this behavior, you can create a shortcut as follows:

  1. Create an application shortcut on the Desktop.
  2. Run the application.
  3. Once the application starts, right-click on the taskbar icon and select Pin to taskbar. Note that the icon pinned will be the 2X icon.
  4. Open the following directory, where xxxx is the user name:

    C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

  5. Rename the "TSClient Application" shortcut to the name of the application.
  6. Copy the Target Shortcut properties from the desktop shortcut to the one in the Taskbar folder.
  7. Change the icon of the shortcut to the application icon by browsing the following folder:

    C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\2XClient\ico

You can then delete the desktop shortcut.

Note: The folder might be Local instead of Roaming. The process needs to be repeated for every application needed.
