You have upgraded a virtual machine with Windows XP or Vista from Parallels Desktop version 3, installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1
or some applications that have a CD/DVD filter driver.
After the virtual machine restart the CD drive or DVD drive no longer works as expected, or is no longer shown in My Computer.

This problem is often reported with CD/DVD-Roms by Matshita.
