How to enable Password Prompt for a Windows VM created in Express Installation Mode

Windows guest OS automatically logs the user in as Administrator, without asking for a password.


If the Windows guest OS was installed in Express Installation mode, no password promt appears on Windows startup. After installing Windows in Express Installation mode, the Windows security policy is configured not to ask the password on startup.


1. Start your Parallels VM.

2. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run.

3. In the input field, type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 and click OK. The User Accounts dialog box appears.

4. In the User Accounts dialog box, open the Users tab and select your account from the Users for this computer list.

5. Select User must enter a username and password to use this computer. Click Apply.
