You have converted a VMware Windows XP Virtual Machine to a Parallels Desktop one, and when you start the Virtual Machine, the upgrade process is stuck and you have to continue in manual mode. Usually you can see Windows activation window but you cannot proceed as there is no mouse and keyboard input.

  1. Start your initial VWware virtual machine.

  2. Locate your Windows XP installation CD.

  3. Click on Windows Start button, then to Run, and type:

    and then press Enter.

  4. The program may (or it may not) ask you for your Windows XP installation CD - please insert it at the prompt. If it does not ask you for the CD this means that it was not necessary to replace any files.

  5. If the system asks you for the CD, you must visit Windows Update immediately after the scan is completed. Please note that there will not be any confirmation dialog - the program will just exit without telling you anything.

  6. Now convert this VMware Fusion virtual machine to Parallels Desktop again.
