User Account Control pop-up window does not appear in Windows 10

  • Parallels Desktop

  • I have Windows 10 virtual machine, and when I try to change Windows product key (or trying to execute an action which requires elevated (administrator) priviliges) it looks like a User Account Control (UAC) pop-up doesn't shows up: I hear that typical sound, the front window looses focus, but nothing appears and I cannot make a mouse click anywhere.

This issue happens when you try to execute an action in Windows 10 Metro App (aka Modern App) which requires elevated (administrator) priviliges. It also happens only if your User Account Control settings are set to Notify me only when applications try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop).

Method #1

When happens, press Tab button and then Return (Enter). This should confirm permission to perform an action.

Method #2

Change your User Account Control settings: go to Start -> type user account control -> the best match will be the Change User Account Control setting option -> hit Return (Enter).

On the appeared window please choose the following option:

And hit OK.
