The following error appears upon the attempt to start virtual machine:
Unable to start virtual machine because one or more kernel components are for another version of Parallels Desktop
The issue was caused by incorrect root ( / ) permissions.
Open Finder > Application > Terminal application check the root ( / ) permissions:
# ls -ld /
The correct permission should be
To change the permissions execute the following command:
# sudo chown root:admin /
Repair disk permissions on your Mac.
Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. On the left side of the window choose
Macintosh HD. On the right side go to "First aid" tab and press "Repair Disk Permissions" button.
- Reboot Mac, check root ( / ) permissions.
If the permissions are set incorrectly once again perform the following:
sudo chown root:admin /once again.
Then open Finder > right click
Macintosh HD> Get info > expand
Sharing & Permissions> added your user and granted
- Reboot Mac and make sure that correct permissions remain.
