Windows starts with black screen after Parallels Desktop update

  • Parallels Desktop for Mac Business Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac Home Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac Standard Edition

I have tried to update Parallels Tools after the latest Parallels Desktop update. Installation fails and after the reboot I can see only black screen with mouse cursor. However, Windows seems to be started as I can hear Windows welcome sound:

Native Windows display adapter has been installed automatically instead of Parallels Tools drivers package.

  1. Boot into Safe Mode.
  2. Open Device Manager (click CMD+R -> Type devmgmt.msc -> Press Enter/Return).
  3. Extend Display adapters -> If it is not Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) please right-click on it -> Uninstall.

  4. Reboot and start Windows in Normal Mode.
  5. Go to the Mac menu -> Actions -> Install Parallels Tools.
  6. Reboot virtual machine and check the issue.
