I am unable to work in Offline Folders mode. I cannot get access to files when using offline folders mode. Files are grayed-out and marked with red cross.


Windows Registry misconfiguration.


  1. Start virtual machine.

  2. Press 'cmd+R' combination, type regedit and hit Enter (return) to open Registry Editor.

  3. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetCache key and change DisableFRAdminPin value to '0'.

  4. Launch Group Policy Editor: Press 'cmd+R' combination, type gpedit.msc and hit Enter (return)

    • Navigate the the value Local Computer Policy->Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Network->Offline Files->Allow or Disallow use of the Offline Files feature

    • Switch it from Not Configured to Enabled and then back to Not Configured, but do not click 'Apply' and do not close the window

  5. Change the focus back at the Registry Editor (or open it again if necessary, see step 2)

    • Find and highlight HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch (not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch!).

    • In the Registry Editor taskbar: Edit -> Find -> type DisableFRAdminPin and press Find Next.

    • When Registry Editor finds the key, check that the path of the key starts with HKEY_CURRENT_USER (the full path is written in the bottom of the Registry Editor window).

    • Highlight DisableFRAdminPin value and delete it.

    • After that switch to the 'Allow or Disallow use of the Offline Files feature' window and click Apply

  6. Restart virtual machine and check the issue.
