Cannot resize partition in Mac OS X virtual machine

  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Standard Edition

  • Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac Standard Edition

I have a virtual machine with Mac OS X. I wanted to add more space to its hard disk.
For that I went to Configuration editor and resized virtual hard disk, started the virtual machine. Inside the VM, when I opened Disk Utility and tried to resize partition for this virtual disk to its full size, the process failed.

This may happen if you have a GPT disk inside your virtual machine. Parallels Desktop does not support resizing such disks yet.
