Additional space appears between lines in Notepad after copying text from Mac to Windows virtual machine

  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac Standard Edition

You create a multi-line text file in a Windows virtual machine using Notepad by pressing Return at the end of in each line. The file is saved on the Mac side by using Shared folders. You open this file on Mac and copy the text to paste it back in Windows virtual machine. When you paste the text, you see that additional space appears between the lines.

Such behavior is caused by difference in creating a "new line" in Plain text files in different operating systems.

Different operating systems have different ways of creating a "new line" (by pressing Return) in text file. The issue appears only with plain text files.

You can use .rtf file format to avoid the issue.
