Symptoms

Published disk-intensive applications slow down significantly compared with them running locally.

Cause

Starting from Windows Server 2012R2, Microsoft has added mechanism for fair sharing of RDSH resources between Remote Desktop users. In some cases it may affect performance of disk-intensive apps, especially during their startup.

It gets enabled by default after installing Remote Desktop Services role.

Resolution

Please consider disabling them if Fair Share doesn't work well in your case.

1. Set the following registry values to 0 on the RDS hosts:

• HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TSFairShare\Disk\EnableFairShare
• HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TSFairShare\NetFS\EnableFairShare

2. Reboot the RDS hosts.
