"No disks suitable for cluster disks were found" error when configuring a cluster

APPLIES TO:
  • Parallels Virtuozzo Containers

Symptoms

While configuring a failover cluster inside containers on Windows Server 2008, e.g., for an MS SQL clustered installation, you may occasionally get the following error:

No disks suitable for cluster disks were found. For diagnostic information about disks available for the cluster, use the Validate a Configuration Wizard to run Storage tests.

Resolution

1. Verify that you are creating a supported clustering configuration in accordance with the relevant Microsoft instructions, with the only difference being that you use containers instead of physical servers or Hyper-V virtual machines.

2. Make sure that the Cluster validation shows all iSCSI drives as valid.

3. Add the disks to the cluster with the help of the cluster command line utility, e.g:

C:\> cluster res "Disk Z:" /create /type:"Physical Disk" /group:"Available Storage"
C:\> cluster res "Disk Z:" /priv DiskPath="Z:"

... replacing DiskPath with the mount point you designate for the corresponding shared disk.
