I'm unable to start Windows after upgrading to Parallels Desktop 6

Symptoms

After upgrading to Parallels Desktop 6, Windows will not start due to:

"Windows\system32\drivers xxx.sys  file is missing" error message

or

Blue Screen error (BSOD) with a STOP error message

or

"Disk read error
" error message

Resolution

Please try to repair Windows installation as described in the following KB articles:

Windows XP:

In the event that the repair is unsuccessful please try to restore your virtual machine from a backup, or contact Parallels Technical support.
