What processes should I allow in Mac's Firewall for Parallels Desktop?

APPLIES TO:
  • Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 4 for Mac Standard Edition

Information

Parallels Desktop requires access to the following URLs:

  1. Parallels Desktop.app - HTTP and HTTPS connections to the download.parallels.com and update.parallels.com URLs
  2. Parallels Service.app – HTTP and HTTPS connections to the download.parallels.com and update.parallels.com URLs
Both processes are required to perform product update and product key activation.

Thus, it might be necessary to enable access in Firewall to the following services:

Macintosh HD/Library/Parallels/Parallels Service.app
Macintosh HD/Applications/Parallels Desktop.app

Please note that name 'Macintosh HD' may vary.

Note: Parallels Desktop preferences checkbox “check for updates” disables all queries for the product updates,  but does not affect product key activation verification. Therefore you may see periodic Parallels Dispatcher service accesses to the parallels.com URL.
