Time zone is not recognized automatically in Windows 7

  • Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac

In Windows 7 (both x32 and x64), the time zone may not be recognized automatically. As a result, applications that depend on time settings may not function properly. For example, under certain conditions, MS Outlook Calendar fails to show free and busy times correctly when scheduling a meeting with several attendees.

To solve this problem, please edit the time synchronization settings in the virtual machine configuration and then specify your time zone in Windows 7. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the configuration of your virtual machine by choosing Virtual Machine > Configure from the menu. If you are working in Crystal or Full Screen, you need to switch to another view mode to be able to access the menu.

  2. Click the Options tab and select Services.

  3. Disable time synchronization by clearing the Synchronize with Mac option, and click OK to save your settings.

  4. In Windows 7, open the Start menu, select Control Panel > Date and Time, and specify your time zone, for example, (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).

In order to keep accurate time inside the virtual machine, you can use an Internet time service.
