My printer does not print national specific characters correctly. What should I do?

Symptoms

Sometimes you may find that your printer prints out the documents in the font that differs from you have on the screen or some national characters are not printed

Resolution

Please first configure the printer to download TrueType fonts as softfonts:

NOTE: Downloading TrueType fonts as softfonts can be memory-intensive and may increase your publication's printing time.

To download TrueType fonts as softfonts:

1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Printers And Faxes (Windows XP) or Printers (Windows 2000).

2. Right-click the printer you use, and then choose Properties.

3. Click the General tab, click Printing Preferences, and then click Advanced.

4. Double-click Graphic (Windows XP) or Graphics Options (Windows 2000).

5. Select TrueType Font, and then choose Download As Softfont.




6. Click OK to close all windows.
 

Specify no substitution for TrueType fonts in the Font Substitution Table for your printer:

To change the font options for your printer:

1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Printers And Faxes (Windows XP) or Printer (Windows 2000).

2. Right-click the printer you use, and then choose Properties.

3. Click the Device Settings tab.

4. Double-click Font Substitution Table to show the list of fonts.

5. Select the font, and choose Don't Substitute from the pop-up menu, and then click OK.




Select the Optimize For Portability option for the PostScript printer:

1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Printers And Faxes (Windows XP) or Printers (Windows 2000).

2. Right-click the printer, and then choose Properties.

3. Click the General tab, click Printing Preferences, and then click Advanced.

4. Double-click PostScript Options.

5. Select PostScript Output Options, and then choose Optimize For Portability from the menu.



 

6. Click OK to close all windows and try to print.
