SymptomsI want to remove Parallels Desktop version 4 but have nor Installation CD/DVD nor .dmg installation package.
ResolutionParallels Desktop can be removed without the installation disk via Uninstaller.sh command line utility located in the directory:
# ls -la /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/Resources
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root admin 134164 Oct 13 05:02 Parallels.icns
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 7194 Oct 13 05:02 ParallelsDispatcherService
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root admin 17723 Oct 13 05:02 Uninstaller.sh
drwxrwxr-x 24 root admin 816 Oct 13 04:14 VM Samples
-rw-r--r-- 1 root admin 715 Oct 13 05:02 com.parallels.vm.prl_naptd.plist
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root admin 1258 Oct 13 05:02 uninstaller_messages.strings
The syntax of Uninstaller.sh is:
# ./Uninstaller.sh selection
Where selection can be one of the following:
desktop Removes Parallels Desktop.
vitools Removes Parallels Transporter, Parallels Explorer, Parallels ImageTool.
sdk Removes Parallels Server SDK.
gtools Removes Parallels Tools for Mac OS X.
You can also pass to Uninstaller.sh one of the following options:
--help Displays the usage information on Uninstaller.sh.
--remove-configs Removes Parallels Desktop configuration files.
Here is the example how to remove Parallels Desktop from the computer using Uninstaller.sh:
NOTE: All virtual machines and Parallels Desktop application itself should be stopped before!
Run the Terminal (Finder -> Applications -> Utilities) and type (without #):
# cd /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/Resources
# sudo ./Uninstaller.sh desktop vitools gtools
