Low Virtual Memory in Windows XP

Symptoms

The message appears in Windows XP guest OS: "Windows Virtual Memory Minimum is Too Low".

Resolution

Note: This solution is applicable to Windows XP guest OS only.

 


  1. Start the virtual machine and go to Parallels Desktop -> Preferences ->Memory tab

  2. Switch the memory limit from automatic to manual.

  3. Enlarge the memory limit.

  4. Enable the virtual memory preallocation check box.

 

After that please do the following:

  1. Click the Start button.

  2. Go to Start -> Control Panel and click Switch to Classic View option.

  3. Double-click the System icon and choose the Advanced tab.

  4. In the "Performance" field, click the Settings button and choose the Advanced tab.

  5. In the "Virtual Memory" field, click the Change button.

  6. Enable the Custom size option.

  7. The initial size should be 768 MB. The maximum size should be 1536 MB.

  8. Click Set.

  9. Click OK.
