How can I create a Shared Folder?

  • Parallels Desktop 3 for Mac


To create a shared folder for the virtual machine, do the following:

Step 1

Turn off your guest OS.

Step 2

Open File → Edit Configuration .


Step 3

Open the Shared Folder options, press the “+” button. Click the “Browse” button and specify the folder you want to share with your guest OS, as well as Input Name, Path, Description (option) and select the Enabled checkbox. If you enable the Read Only checkbox, you will need no write permission for this folder.


Step 4

Click OK. Your folder is already in the Shared Folders list and is enabled. Click OK to save changes in Configuration Editor.

Step 5

Turn on your guest OS.


Step 6

The shared folder is accessible via the shortcut on Desktop. Parallels shared folders are also accessible in guest OS in My network places" → "Entire network" → "Parallels Shared Folders.

In some cases you will not see your Shared Folder shortcut on your desktop. Then type \\.psf in the My Computer address bar. You will see your folder.

Step 7

You can map your shared folder so that it will be visible like a Network Drive in My Computer.  

Step 7.1 Open My Computer → tools → Map Network Drive

Step 7.2

Specify the valid path to your shared folder, for instance,

"My network places"->>"Entire network"->"Parallels Shared Folders".


Step 7.3

Click the”Finish” button.


Step 7.4

Now your folder will appear in My Computer as a Network Drive.
