Could partitioning of a virtual machine hard disk affect real hard disk?

APPLIES TO:
  • Parallels Desktop for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop for Windows & Linux

Resolution

The virtual hard disk used by your Virtual Machine is a virtual container. For your Host operating system(OS) it is visible as a usual file which all the changes are written to. So its partitioning, formatting and other operations do not affect your real hard disk used by the Host OS. Partitions on the real hard disk are also not affected by such operations.
