  • Virtuozzo Containers for Windows 4.0

Symptoms

Windows Media Server is installed inside a VE through Add/Remove programs, Windows Components.
However Windows Media Server snap-in fails to start with the following error:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source: Microsoft Management Console
Event Category:         None
Event ID:        1000
Date:               10/23/2007
Time:               3:00:40 AM
User:               N/A
Computer:       VPS1111
Description: The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Management Console ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: mmc.exe, 5.2.3790.3959, msvcrt.dll, 7.0.3790.3959, 00038fa7.

Microsoft Service Pack 2 is installed on the node and inside a VE.

Cause

Most likely the reason of the problem is wrong distributive provided during Windows Media Server installation. I.e. Windows 2003 original distributive provided instead of Windows 2003 Service Pack 2.

Resolution

Reinstall Windows Media Server using Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 distributive.

Note: Service Pack 2 distributive files can be located in the following folder (in case SP2 is installed separately ) : C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
