[FIX]I cannot do backup of virtual environment (VE) due to an invalid dat file error.

Article ID: 1541
Last Review: Jun,06 2007
APPLIES TO:
  • Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5.1
  • Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5.1 SP1

SYMPTOMS

When I try to run a backup for VE, I receive the following error message:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>vzbackup 10009 backuping...
#2502 Invalid dat file;

CAUSE

Vps.dat file located in the C:\vz\backups\VE_GUID folder is either corrupted or missing. This file is used for backup descriptions and is parsed by Virtuozzo every time it does any backup operations for this specific VE.
Please check VE GUID - then you can go to C:\vz\backups\VE_GUID folder.

RESOLUTION

Normally, in the addition to the vps.dat file in C:\vz\backups\VE_GUID folder is also the vps.bak file. This vps.bak is the previous version of vps.dat file.
You can try to remove the corrupted vps.dat and rename the vps.bak to vps.dat. In case there are no vps.dat and vps.bak files , please save the C:\vz\backups\VE_GUID content somewhere and remove this directory
(You would do it in case you would like to save some of previous backups). After that, you should be able to do backups without any problems.
