prl_naptd is using 100% CPU and Shared network does not work

Symptoms

prl_naptd is using 100% CPU in Activity Monitor and Shared network does not work in the virtual machine.

Cause

network.desktop.xml file misconfiguration, not optimized for IPv6.

Resolution

  1. Quit Parallels Desktop.
  2. Launch Terminal.app on the Mac.
  3. Execute the commands in Terminal window separately (one by one):

    Note: you will be asked to enter your Mac password and hit Enter to continue, it will not be seen in Terminal window due to security measures.

    sudo rm -rf /Library/Preferences/Parallels/network.desktop.xml
    
    sudo killall -9 prl_naptd
    
  4. Start Parallels Desktop.
