"Terminal service not enabled" agent status

Symptoms

Terminal service agent status shows Terminal service not enabled

Cause

Remote Desktop Service role is not installed or RDS connections are disabled.

Resolution

A Terminal Server Agent must be installed for publishing applications or remote desktops from a RDS server. As a result Remote Desktop Service role should be installed and RDS connections should be enabled.

Things to check:

  1. Make sure RDS role (Terminal role in Windows server 2003) is installed on the server.
  2. Check that following group policy Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Connection > Allow users to connect remotely using Remote Desktop Service is enabled.
  3. In Control Panel > System > Remote Settings make sure that remote connections to the server are allowed:

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
    

    make sure that fDenyTSConnections dword is set to 0:
