I am not able to install RAS Reporting: There was an error while creating the Database

Logs

in the %windir%\Logs\RASReportingLog.txt I see the following error

    [I 39/00000000] Sun Sep 06 12:04:29 2015 - Preparing to create Database...
    [I 39/00000000] Sun Sep 06 12:04:29 2015 - Executing New Database script: ReportingDatabase.sql
    [E 39/00000000] Sun Sep 06 12:04:29 2015 - Create Database EXCEPTION - An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (inner exception: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.)

Cause

Creating of SQL database fails because of lack of permissions.

Resolution

  1. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and connect to RASREPORTING instance.
  2. In Object Explorer expand RASREPORTINGVIEW instance > Security > Logins and make sure the following users are in the list:

    <hostname>\Administrator
    <domainname>\administrator
    NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    

    if not, add them manually:

    • In Object Explorer, expand RASREPORTINGVIEW instance.

    • Right-click the Security folder, point to New, and select Login….

    • In the Login – New dialog box, on the General page, enter the name of a user in the Login name box. Alternately, click Search… to open the Select User or Group dialog box.
    • Proceed with adding. Use Windows authentication.
  3. Check that all three users have appropriate roles assigned:

    • right-click the user > Properties > go to "Server Roles" tab, in the right pane check "sysadmin":
