Crash while trying to install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.0 into Ubuntu virtual machine

Symptoms

Unable to connect VMware vSphere Hypervisor 6.0 into Ubuntu virtual machine as the virtual machine crashes.

Cause

There is no enough memory assigned to the virtual machine.

Resolution

According to the requirements a VMware ESXi 6.0 virtual machine must have the following configuration to run:

  1. At least 2 CPUs;

  2. At least 4 GB RAM (8 GB is recommended):

    Increase CPU and memory as per the knowledgebase article KB 113649

  3. The NIC type must be set to "Intel PRO/1000 MT":

    Go to menu bar at the top -> Actions -> Configure -> Hardware -> Network -> NIC type: Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT -> choose Shared Network

  4. It is also recommended to enable the Nested Virtualization option:

    Set Software Development profile for virtual machine. You may also check it as per KB 116239.
