Unable to install Kaspersky Internet Security for Windows.The selected folder or drive already contains files. The application cannot be installed.

Symptoms

Unable to install Kaspersky Internet Security in Windows virtual machine. Program failed because the folder already contained data.

During the installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 you receive the message:

    “The selected folder or drive already contains files. The application cannot be installed”

Cause

Kaspersky Internet Security was not uninstalled properly.

Resolution

Manually delete the Kaspersky Lab installation folder the following the steps below:

  1. Open Windows Explorer by pressing Windows Logo + E on your keyboard.
  2. Click the C: Drive.
  3. Click the Program Files (x86) folder (if this folder is not present, click the Program Files folder).
  4. In this folder, locate and delete the folder Kaspersky Lab:

    • Right-click the Kaspersky Lab folder.

    • In the context menu select Delete.

    • In the Delete Folder window click Yes to delete the folder.

  5. Try to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 once again.
