Parallels Tools crashes with BSOD: VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL

Symptoms

Unable to install Parallels Tools in Boot Camp based virtual machine as installation crashes with BSOD:

Cause

DisplayLink adapter and its software causes conflicts with Parallels Display driver.

Parallels Desktop do not support the DisplayLink drivers for the present time.

Resolution

  1. Start Windows virtual machine. In case it crashes you will need to boot in Boot Camp natively.

  2. Log in to Windows.

  3. Right-click on Start > Device Manager.

  4. Expand Display Adapters tree > right-click on DisplayLink adapter > Uninstall.

  5. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Find and remove the following applications:

    • DislayLink Core Software
    • DisplayLink Graphics
    • All other apps that contains 'DisplayLink'.

  6. If you do not have the driver from the step above then please update all Windows drivers.

  7. Restart Windows virtual machine and proceed with Parallels Tools installation.
