Symptoms

Virtual machine overwrites .lnk files located on the Mac side.

Resolution

  1. Stop your virtual machine.
  2. Locate your virtual machine's .PMV file. See KB 117333 to learn more.
  3. Open the .PVM file with the "Show package contents" context menu item.
  4. Locate the config.pvs file and open it with TextEdit.
  5. Search for the following part:

    <SharedFolders dyn_lists="">
        <HostSharing MapSharedFoldersOnLetters_patch="1" dyn_lists="SharedFolder 0">
           <Enabled>1</Enabled>
           <ShareAllMacDisks>0</ShareAllMacDisks>
           <ShareUserHomeDir>1</ShareUserHomeDir>
           <MapSharedFoldersOnLetters>1</MapSharedFoldersOnLetters>
           <UserDefinedFoldersEnabled>1</UserDefinedFoldersEnabled>
           <SetExecBitForFiles>0</SetExecBitForFiles>
           <VirtualLinks>1</VirtualLinks>
           <EnableDos8dot3Names>1</EnableDos8dot3Names>
           <SharedShortcuts>1</SharedShortcuts>
           <SharedCloud>1</SharedCloud>

  6. Locate the following string: <SharedShortcuts>1</SharedShortcuts> and replace "1" with "0".

    The result should look like this:

    <SharedShortcuts>0</SharedShortcuts>

  7. Save the changes and close the file.
  8. Launch your virtual machine.
