Unable to install Parallels Tools. Failed to connect to Windows Update service

Symptoms

Unable to install Parallels Tools.

In parallels-tools-setup.log ( located in C: Windows/Temp ) the following errors appeared:

[G] 10-10 17:22:02.578 W WUMONITOR /WinUpdateMonitor:520:1f0/ Failed to connect to Windows Update service! (HRESULT = 8024AFFF)

or

[G] 11-21 20:17:29.560 W WUMONITOR /WinUpdateMonitor:1392:5f4/ Failed to connect to Windows Update service! (HRESULT = 0000000080004002)

Cause

Windows Update failure. That also might occur on a real PC's.

Resolution

  1. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter (please check the Microsoft knowledge base article).
  2. Check Windows OS for updates and install them (Start menu > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates)
  3. Restart Windows virtual machine.
  4. Install Parallels Tools (Go to Mac menu > Actions > Install Parallels Tools) and check the issue.

In case the issue still persists, Windows system files needs to be repaired.
