Symptoms

  • Unable to start Parallels Desktop 9 after upgrading Mac OS X Update.
  • You can’t open the application “Parallels Desktop” because it may be damaged or incomplete.

Resolution

  1. Open Terminal application (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal);
  2. Copy the following command, paste it into Terminal window and press Return:

    sudo su
    

    It will ask to enter the Mac admin password. Please enter it (you will not be able to see the symbols you type) and hit Enter/return.

  3. Execute the additional command

    chmod -R 755 /Applications/Parallels\ Desktop.app
    
  4. Start Parallels Desktop.
