Unable to start Windows Virtual Machine after upgrading Parallels Desktop 10. PRL_ERR_DISK_SHARING_VIOLATION

Symptoms

  • Unable to start Virtual Machine after upgrading to Parallels Desktop 10.

  • Error : PRL_ERR_DISK_SHARING_VIOLATION:

Cause

Wrong Mac Hard Disk permissions.

Resolution

  1. Stop virtual machine.

  2. Repair Mac OS X file permissions:

    • Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/).
    • Select your Mac OS X startup volume (Macintosh HD by default) in the column on the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the First Aid tab.
    • Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
  3. Reboot Mac and then Start the Virtual Machine.
