Symptoms

Unable to start suspended Windows XP virtual machine after PD9>PD10 upgrade.

Cause

Virtual machine process crashes or misconfiguration of the virtual machine.

Resolution:

First step:

Please check the amount of CPU attached to the virtual machine in Actions -> Configure... -> Hardware Tab -> CPU & Memory -> assign only 1 CPU to Windows XP.

Workaround:

  1. Backup virtual machine.

  2. Open Parallels Control Center -> Right-click the virtual machine name -> Show in Finder -> locate virtual machine .pvm file, right-click it and choose Show Package Contents.

  3. Remove here file with .mem extension:

    alttext

  4. Start virtual machine normally.
