How to create an ISO image from CD/DVD disk?

Symptoms

I would like to create an .iso image of my CD/DVD disk using Disk Utility on my Mac and use it in my Windows virtual machine.

Resolution

  1. Please insert the disk to your Mac
  2. Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility
  3. Select the disk in the list and click on 'New Image' button:

  4. Type in the name, choose the location (where you would like to save the file). In the Image format choose DVD/CD master, Encryption: None

  5. Click Save
  6. Wait till process finishes

  7. Connect the created image to the virtual machine:
    • Please go to the virtual machine configuration: Hardware > CD/DVD
    • Check the option Connected
    • Click on Connect to: Choose an image file.. and specify the location of the image
