Parallels IP addresses are registered in the network DDNS server

APPLIES TO:
  • Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac Standard Edition
  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac Standard Edition

Symptoms

Parallels Virtual Network IP addresses (10.211.55.2 and 10.37.129.2) are registered in the network DDNS server

Cause

When a server is connected to a network that implements dynamic DNS (DDNS), including Microsoft Active Directory networks, OS X may register each configured network interface address in DNS.

To know more please visit Apple KB HT3169,

Resolution

To workaround this issue, the DDNS should be restricted to the single interface.

For 10.7 and later this could be done using the following command executed in Terminal

    dsconfigad -restrictDDNS "en0"

It is also possible to add this line to your startup script.
