Mac OS 10.5 Server VM installation in Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac

Symptoms

Installing Mac OS 10.5 Server as a Virtual Machine using Parallels Desktop 8, you are unable to verify the serial key and finish the installation.

Cause

At the stage of serial key verification, Mac OS virtual machine does not have any internet access yet, hence it is unable to verify the serial key.

Resolution

In New virtual machine creating wizard, please customize settings as described below:

  1. From Parallels Desktop File menu, choose New to create new virtual machine. Follow onscreen instructions and make sure you have the appropriate operating system type specified.

  2. At the Name and Location stage, Customize settings before installation checkbox in the bottom of wizard window:

  3. At Virtual Machine Configuration screen, click the Configure button:

  4. In the Configuration window open the Hardware tab and select the Boot Order option. Insert the following bootflag:

    devices.net.force_adapter_type=ne2k

  5. Close the Configuration window and continue the installation.
