How to disable keyboard layout synchronisation between Mac and Windows virtual machine.

APPLIES TO:
  • Parallels Desktop for Mac
  • Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition

Symptoms

  • You would like to switch keyboard layouts on the Mac side;
  • You would like to disable keyboard layout synchronization between Mac and Windows virtual machine.

Cause

  • Specific keyboard layout used on the Mac OS X side.

Resolution

In order to disable keyboard layout synchronization, you need to manually modify config.pvs file.

To do so, please:

  1. Shut down your Windows virtual machine.

  2. Right-click on Parallels Desktop icon in Dock and choose Control Center (Virtual machines list in Parallels Desktop 9).

  3. Right-click on your virtual machine and choose Show in Finder.

  4. Right-click on your virtual machine's file (file with .pvm extension) and choose Show Package Contents.

  5. Right-click on config.pvs file, choose Open With and open it with TextEdit.app.

  6. Locate the following part (you can open search in TextEdit using Cmd+F shortcut):

    <KeyboardLayoutSync dyn_lists="">
        <Enabled>1</Enabled>

    And change 1 to 0. It should look like this:

    <KeyboardLayoutSync dyn_lists="">
        <Enabled>0</Enabled>

Save the changes in config.pvs file and close it. Now keyboard layouts are not synchronized and will not be changed automatically.
