Parallels Desktop and Power PC emulation at Mac OS X Lion

  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac

You would like to run Power PC application (e.g. old Final Cut Pro suite) on Mac OS X Lion with the help of Parallels Desktop for Mac but do not know how/not able to do it.

Mac OS X Lion is an Intel Operating System and does not support Power PC emulation software. Please refer to Wikipedia forum for more information.

The virtualisation technique in Parallels Desktop allows guest operating systems to use the host CPU, but it is not capable of emulating completely different CPU architecture (such as PowerPC).
This is why it is not possible to install not Intel Operating Systems in Parallels Virtual Machine, e.g. Mac OS 8 Server or Mac OS 9 Server.

However as a workaround you may try to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Leopard as a Virtual Machine and run Power PC application using Rosetta
