RESOLUTION
When a Virtual Private Server (VE) starts, Virtuozzo creates a proxy Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) record on a network adapter (set as preferred for the VE) on the Host Node. This ARP record will contain the IP address of that VE.Based on this approach, any device from the same network segment sends the ARP request to determine which server has the IP address of the VE. The Host Node of that VE will respond to the request. This approach allows the packets destined for a specific VE to be routed via the Virtuozzo Host Node. Acting as a network router, The Virtuozzo Host Node simply passes packets from outside networks to the appropriate virtual server. No modifications to the packets are made by the the Host Node.
A brief illustration of Virtuozzo routing:
| The LAN interface of the Host Node acts as an ARP proxy for all the incoming IP addresses. The Host Node initially receives all packets from the outside network and passes it to its destined virtual server. The virtual connection of the Host Node will be used as the Default Gateway for each VE. The Host Node will then send any packets it has received to the appropriate VE. td> |
