Activation
For correct usage of Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme two actions are required - Activation and Registration.
Activating Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme means that you have inserted a license key in the correct field which allows you to run the software purchased.
You can find an activation key:
For Parallels Workstation Extreme: printed on the cover of the installation CD.
For Parallels Workstation: In the confirmation e-mail body which is sent after on-line purchase has been made.
Having activated your copy of Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme, you can use virtual machines, install operating systems and various applications on them.
Actually, the activation procedure for Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme is as follows:
For Parallels Workstation: When first started an application you need to enter a permanent activation key.
For Parallels Workstation Extreme: When first started an application you need to enter a permanent activation key if not entered by a sales representative of Hewlet Packard company.
Common Errors
Below is the list of the most common error message displayed by activation of Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme and their meanings:
"This key is invalid" - The key you entered is not a correct key for Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme. Please check if you entered the correct key. There is some misspelling possible between "O" (the letter O), "0" (zero), "I" (the letter i), "1" (the number one).
"This key can not be used with ..." - The key inserted is not suitable for the current version or build of Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme.
"This key is only suitable for (English / German / French, etc.) version of Parallels Workstation ..." - You have a localized version installed and try to activate it with a key that corresponds to a different language.
"The trial activation key expired on ..." - Your trial activation key has expired. To continue using Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme, you need to purchase a permanent activation key.
"The operation failed due to a network error" - To activate your Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme license, you need a stable Internet connection. Please check that you have it and try again. If the problem persists, contact the Parallels support team.
"This activation key has expired" - Your activation key has expired. To continue using Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme, you need to renew the product license. For more details, please contact the Parallels support team.
Registration
After you have activated your copy of Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme with a permanent activation key, you are recommended to register your copy of application (in other words - to create your own account in the Parallels database and inform us about a license key you own).
With registration, you will be able to:
- download and install the latest Parallels Workstation or Parallels Workstation Extreme updates
- contact the Parallels support team via email
- stay informed about Parallels news and announcements
- restore lost products keys, or stop using stolen product key
All these services, including the product key backup, are free of charge for the registered users of Parallels Workstation and Parallels Workstation Extreme.
