Upgrading to Parallels Desktop 9?

NOTE: After upgrading to Parallels Desktop 9 you do not need to reinstall Windows or create a new virtual Machine.

You can continue using your existing virtual machine and all applications installed in it.

IMPORTANT: Upgrades are possible for Parallels Desktop 7 and later. For activation instructions with a Parallels Desktop 9 upgrade license, please see KB #116848.

If your previous version key is for Parallels Desktop 6 or earlier, please visit the Parallels Convenience Store to purchase a full license for Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac.

To install Parallels Desktop 9 please proceed to the instructions below.


  1. Parallels Desktop 9 is distributed as the .dmg image. The installation file is available to download at

  2. After downloading, double-click the installation file with the .dmg extension. It will be mounted in Finder. Then double-click the Install icon.

  3. Enter your Mac user password, and the installation will start.

  4. If you are upgrading to Parallels Desktop 9 from an earlier version, you will see this dialogue. Click Remove to remove your current version of Parallels Desktop and install Parallels Desktop 9.
