Microsoft Updates that are applied to containers can be divided into three main categories based on their different approaches:

• Operating System updates (for core components, roles and features, etc.)
• Application updates (for MS Office, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint)
• .NET Framework updates

This article explains how to automate the installation of each type of update into Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Windows containers using Microsoft WSUS.

Operating System updates

It is necessary to use Parallels WSUS for OS updates as per this article:

These settings should be applied directly on the Hardware Node and such updates will be automatically propagated to all containers.

Important considerations:

Application updates

If containers have some applications installed that also require regular security update installations, it is advised to set up an additional WSUS server:

.NET Framework updates

.NET Framework security updates should be installed manually inside containers; there is no supported way to automate the procedure.
