Windows program cannot detect microphone in Windows virtual machine

Symptoms

An application fails to detect microphone in a Windows Vista/7 virtual machine. As a result the microphone settings in the application are   out.

Some applications even generate an error:

"There are no compatible sound devices installed on this computer"




Examples of affected applications:
  • Cisco IP Communicator version 8.6 and higher
  • Audio Tuning Wizard
  • Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007

Cause

Parallels Product Maintenance team is currently aware of this problem and working on the solution. Meanwhile please try to use the workaround below.

Resolution

Please update Parallels Desktop to the latest build. To obtain the update, please do the following:

1. Start Parallels Desktop, click on Parallels Desktop menu ► Check for Updates...
2. Download and install the Update.
