Cannot convert VirtualBox 2.x/3.x to Parallels Desktop 7/8 for Mac

  • Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac
  • Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac
  • Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac
  • Parallels Server

I want to use my VirtualBox 2.x/3.x virtual machines in Parallels Desktop 7, 8 and 9 for Mac running on Mac OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion, but I cannot choose them in Parallels Desktop to start converting.

The VirtualBox 2.X/3.X virtual machines default folder is your Home folder, /Library/VirtualBox.

The "Library" folder is hidden on the Mac OS X Lion, which is why Parallels Desktop cannot see it.

Follow these steps to make the Library folder visible:

  1. Start the Terminal app from Applications/Utilities.
  2. Copy/paste the following command to the Terminal:
 chflags nohidden ~/Library
  1. Hit Enter (Return).
  2. Try to convert your virtual machines again.
